What did I think about this book?
I first found out about this book though Instagram when the author popped up on my feed as a suggested post. This book caught my eye since this story had tropes that I enjoy reading (found family and grumpy x sunshine). I reached out to the author to request the book and I was so excited when I found out that I would have the chance to read this story early!
The main character Rowan reminded me so much of Emily Henry’s character Poppy in the way that she approached her fashion choices and how she brought a lot of energy into the room. I liked hearing Rowan’s thoughts through her point of view. Her character made me laugh a lot in the way that she dealt with situations on her hiking trip. I could relate a lot to her mental health struggles and her feelings about life. I also liked how this book had realistic growth for her character, learning from her mistakes and experiences, and how that was shown by the end of the book. I really loved the mismatched hiking group that was formed in this book! The interactions between these characters was top tier. The characters were able to help each other resolve conflicts and grow both separately and as a group. This book was set in Scotland and was able to highlight some Scottish traditions as well. I haven’t read a Scottish set book before and I really enjoyed the location!
I truly enjoyed the romance in this story between the main characters and how each interaction they had with each other helped them learn something more about the other that they hadn’t known before. Due to the grumpy x sunshine trope, I did expect the main male character to be a bit grumpier. However, Angus had a soft heart even towards the beginning of the book when he didn’t know Rowan well. I thought the couple’s relationship in the story was spicy and sweet.
Would I recommend this book?
Yes! This was a cozy book to read! I liked that this book wasn’t completely focused on romance, but took the time to build friendships between the characters. This book is perfect for those that enjoy romance authors like Emily Henry and who want a fun and easy read!
